A New Restless Week

Posted in What I'm Watching on January 19, 2009 by Jeff

young-and-restlessThe last week of my soap experiment is here.  Today, I will start watching The Young and the Restless for the next five episodes.  Due to the Presidential Inauguration tomorrow, Y&R won’t air on Tuesday, so I’ll make up my fifth day next Monday.

Will the daytime ratings leader win me over? How much room for soaps can my TiVo hold? Tune in and find out!

One Life to Live All Over Again

Posted in What I'm Watching on January 12, 2009 by Jeff

one_life_to_liveThere are two weeks left in my experiment and this week is all about One Life to Live.  OLTL has always held a special place in my heart. Will Llanview be a place that I want to set up permanent residence?  I’ll let you know over the weekend!

For those keeping score: only AMC and B&B have earned a spot on my TiVo list as of yet.

Double Duty!

guiding-lightThis week is a little different as I will watch General Hospital on Monday and Tuesday to make up for last week’s pre-emptions as well as the full week of Guiding Light.

General Hospital got a shot in the arm from last week’s wedding.  Can it hold up? Springfield seems like an entire other town that it used to be when I watched it before (it seems more like a small town in Northern New Jersey…), but it was for many years “my show.”  I hope I find something that will makt it “mine” again.

Five Days of My Life… Starting Today!

Posted in What I'm Watching with tags on December 22, 2008 by Jeff

days_of_our_livesDays of Our Lives is this week’s soap as I approach the halfway mark of my “return to daytime” experiment.  I will watch all five episodes of Days of Our Lives this week (even on Christmas).  It will mark the first time I’ve watched the show on a regular basis since 1998.  I’ll give a full report over the weekend. Just for the record, All My Children and The Bold and the Beautiful are still on my “must watch” list. As the World Turns didn’t make the list.

A Bold New Week

Posted in What I'm Watching with tags on December 15, 2008 by Jeff

ridge-and-brookeIf it’s Monday there must be another soap on the horizon.  This week brings The Bold the the Beautiful, with it’s sultry citizens of Los Angeles’ fashion world.

For those keeping score, All My Children is still on my viewing list. As the World Turns is not.

Two Weeks Down… Six to Go!

Two weeks.

Two soaps.

Six more to go!

Today was the last day of my As the World Turns week.  Tomorrow I will have a complete report of what I thought of the show (here’s a preview: I love Julie Pinson!).

Monday will bring the start of my Bold and the Beautiful week.  LA won’t be the same for me without Sally Spectra, but B&B has kept many of it’s core cast throughout the years so I’m hoping it will be easy for me to follow along quickly.

Stay tuned!

Week Two: As The World Turns

Posted in What I'm Watching with tags on December 8, 2008 by Jeff

noelle-beckAnother week, another soap.  It’s time for me to check out As The World Turns for the first time since the early 1990’s.  I’m looking forward to seeing Elizabeth Hubbard as Lucinda.  I’m curious to see what all the fuss is about over Luke and Noah.  I hope I get to see Bob and Kim, who used to remind me so much of own parents (without the multiple marriages).  Most of all, I am really curious to see what Noelle Beck does with the role of Lily.  In the mid 1980’s, two of my favorite heroines were Martha Byrne’s Lily and Noelle Beck’s Trisha (from Loving).  This is going to be interesting!  I’ll report my full findings over the weekend, plus I’ll have a post on my thoughts of last week’s All My Children this Wednesday.

Stay tuned!

AMC: I Did It!

I actually watched FIVE hours of All My Children – in one week! I can’t remember the last time I did that. I have a lot of thoughts about the Pine Valley of 2008.  I’ll organize those thoughts this weekend and post my opinions on Tuesday or Wednesday. In the meantime, I’ll be spending a good portion of the weekend telling myself “She’s not Trisha Alden anymore” as I prepare to watch Noelle Beck as Lily on As The World Turns next week.

For those who are curious, I haven’t removed All My Children from my TiVo list.

Stay tuned!

AMC: The Half-Way Point

I’m at the half way-point of my week long All My Children viewing experiment. I’ll wait to review the entire five days until early next week, but I will say that I haven’t been bored yet. The question remains: Will I keep watching after the week is up?

Stay tuned.

The All My Children Experiment: Day One

Today is my first day of watching All My Children after several years of being away from the show.  I won’t be doing daily updates; the point of my experiment isn’t to write synopsises of each episode, but instead to review the show based on a full week of watching.  Watch for my thoughts on All My Children in a full post early next week.
